Faster speeds across Australia

$750 million investment to 5G-enable nbn® Fixed Wireless and deliver faster speeds across Australia

Important news for the City of Wanneroo

This week, the Australian Government and nbn® announced a $750 million investment in the nbn® Fixed Wireless and Sky Muster networks to deliver faster wholesale speeds, benefitting thousands of homes and businesses across the country.

This investment will deliver four major benefits to homes and businesses, including:

Extended Fixed Wireless: Enhanced coverage and extended maximum range limit for nbnfixed wireless towers resulting in expansion of the fixed wireless coverage by up to 50 per cent. This will enable 120,000 premises on satellite networks to access fixed wireless services.

Faster Fixed Wireless wholesale speeds: Following consultation, nbn proposes that homes and businesses in the expanded nbnFixed Wireless footprint will be able to order wholesale download speeds of up to 100 Mbps. nbn is aiming that up to 85% per cent of the expanded footprint will be able to order wholesale download speeds of up to 250 Mbps, three times faster than today.

Improve Fixed Wireless typical wholesale busy hour speeds: Fixed wireless network improvements are expected to allow nbn to achieve ‘typical wholesale busy period speeds’ of at least 50 Mbps (download).

Enhanced data limits and network performance on nbn™ Sky Muster: For the homes and businesses that remain on nbn Satellite, nbn is proposing to unmeter nbn® Sky Muster Plus data, increasing the off-peak period to 16 hours (12am-4pm) per day, from the current 6 hour window (1am – 7am). In addition, nbn is aiming to increase average monthly data allowances to 55 GB, increasing to 90 GB once the fixed wireless upgrade is complete in around two and a half years’ time.

Information about when, where, and how these improvements will be rolled out will be available over the coming months. We have started our detailed planning, and once that is complete, we expect the rollout to take around two and a half years (subject to further assessment through the detailed planning process).
