The Fortuna Foundation was founded by members of Fortuna Advisory Group, as a philanthropic pursuit to inspire people to come together and help those less fortunate by standing beside them at times of poverty and sickness.
One way the Foundation has done this is through the recently launched Positive Spin Mobile Laundry Project. The Positive Spin Van aims to cover the welfare gap that currently exists by offering a free mobile laundry service to those in need.
Marketing Coordinator Olivia Di Falco explained how they chose to promote the launch of the Positive Spin Project through Wanneroo Business Association (WBA) to increase awareness of the mobile laundry van in the City of Wanneroo region. “WBA cultivates connectivity throughout a thriving network of people and businesses. They have a substantial reach throughout their communication channels which they consistently and efficiently update, so it was a great opportunity to utilise this free service as part of our membership to get the message out about the van. Second to this, WBA Staff, such as Lauren Bell, General Manager, are highly organised and helpful, which makes any endeavour with the organisation simple and successful” Olivia said.
Olivia explained that the main benefit of promoting the Foundation through the WBA was to extend the reach of our launch beyond their own communication channels. The van will be operating in the Wanneroo region as part of its service, so she added that it was a good way to specifically target businesses in the area to learn about the project and hopefully want to assist. “The WBA promoted the van across their socials before and after we stopped at their office as part of a recent roadshow. In addition, the WBA added our press release on their website for all members to access.”
Olivia explained that they achieved connections with other businesses who had not heard about the Foundation’s work before and were approached by multiple contacts offering their services and expressions of interest to volunteer as a result of the promotin through WBA. “We achieved a successful launch event with a good turn out of people; having the support of the WBA in assisting with the launch also means they are familiar with what we do and can help in promoting endeavours of the foundation in the future.”
When asked if Olivia would recommend other businesses use the promtion aspect of their membership with the WBA, she said ‘yes! There are many avenues in which WBA can assist your business which you may not have even considered. It is a professional association that has the ability to connect a multitude of businesses in a unique way, utilising their communication channels to the highest degree.”
Fortuna Foundation – Positive Spin Project
In Western Australia, over 9000 people experience homelessness every night. * We hope that by providing this mobile laundry service we will alleviate some of the common stresses our homeless friends face every day; that they won’t have to worry about something as simple as clean clothes and hygiene which we often take for granted. The van features two washing machines, two dryers, a generator, and an in-built water tank, so that the van can run two cycles of washing per machine at any remote location where there is no water supply. As a typical wash and dry cycle will take about 1 hour, we will be working in conjunction with community groups, organisations, and churches to hopefully offer other complementary services at the same time, such as food, drink, or healthcare.
The Positive Spin Van will be operating in the northern corridor of Perth, predominantly servicing the Joondalup – Wanneroo region while also potentially servicing areas around Caversham and Beechboro.
We have also already received special requests to go to places of need, such as the Wooroloo/Gidgegannup area for families who have been displaced due to the bushfires earlier this year, and across Armadale and Girrawheen.
The mobile laundry van will assist those in need to access proper hygiene and care, with flow on effects of improved dignity, connectedness to others and the community, and the increased confidence to seek out employment.
*According to 2016 Census Data
The Fortuna Foundation team are focusing efforts on making the Positive Spin Van Project as successful as possible, to reach as many people in need as we can. They aim to continue activities which help alleviate poverty among children, homeless, sick, aged, and disabled people, so stay tuned for our future projects!
